Jakkie and I live in Fradswell, a delightful rural community in mid Staffordshire.
Fradswell Community Hub is a charity in our village, which exists to make a positive difference to the well being of the community by addressing rural isolation, and physical and psychological well being. It also enables local people to learn, share and engage in social enterprise.
It's vision is as follows:
A vibrant community hub at the heart of Fradswell providing local opportunities to meet, socialise, learn, share and shop
It aspires to be a model for rural community engagement
It's values (guiding principles) are:
From 2012-16 I chaired the charity and am proud to have led a project which gained £500k of funding, enabling it to build a new village hall in the heart of our community, which replaced a First World War army hut!
We also acquired two acres of land around the hall as a designated village green.
With £18,000 of funding, plus local donations and volunteers, we were able to create our Serenity Garden in a small area of the green, next to the hall. This was proudly opened by the children of Fradswell Gardening Club, in September 2017
