The Lobster Pot Cafe - reviews

The five stars awarded were deserved because this book delivers exactly what it purports to. Barry Dore couldn’t have written a more appropriate book based in a quaint, seaside village; one we can all recall or know well. Even the characters he skilfully introduces and weaves into the narrative have familiar mannerisms and character traits. The long sunny days of lockdown were lubricated by this gentle, ice-cream, crossed with a warm duvet of a novel.

Just finished your book Barry brilliant read!

Barry Dore has a written his first novel and it is a fine effort. It doesn’t read like a first as it simply flows through the chapters.

It is the tale of a small Welsh coastal village and a new resident’s introduction to life there. It details his struggle to write a book and his interactions with characterful villagers. They are a mixed group of individuals who help him to form, not only interesting relationships but aid his quest of writing.

I read it during May 2020 outside in the sunshine and I could hear, through the pages of the book, the tide rolling in. It would also be appropriate to read in the winter months when going outside is not so welcoming. The book would give a slice of summer magic in the colder months.

I can only recommend that you purchase this novel, read and hopefully enjoy it much as I did. I must congratulate the author on a fine piece of fiction. I am sure that his own life experiences have influenced this beautiful story. Thank you Mr Dore for helping me through the difficult times of 2020.

This was a beautifully written, feel-good story about embracing the past and finding new beginnings! I loved this book - the characters are loveable and realistic; and the setting is the perfect foil for the plot (as a West Wales girl myself, the location couldn’t have been better!)

This is a gentle read, I found it a perfect way to escape lockdown malaise, and thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend!

What a great read. Thanks Barry. I reckon it took less than 24 hours to read which is a mixed blessing, as I am now going to miss the cast of characters.

Maybe I’ll just amuse myself by looking for quirky coastal properties on air bnb or right move!

Just completed Lobster Pot. Thoroughly enjoyed the read. Gentle and fast moving. Glad you avoided too much sugar at the end. I felt quite emotional a couple of times. Thought the idea of reading SB's future book as I read your book was very neat

Are you employed by the Welsh tourist board? Sounds like a great place to get away from it all. Your words painted the picture beautifully

A great array of interesting characters and I loved the way you were able to leave hints of intrigue which made me need to read on.

And I loved the symbolic ending with the image of the marker buoy giving the green light for the future - nothing else needed to be said

You should be very proud indeed

Hi Barry. A bit of a depressing message but also good. I recommended your book to a close friend. Last week her sister in law died after a short illness. All very depressing. Then this morning my friend messaged me to say she was reading your book through the last few weeks of nursing her sis and it had helped her to escape and she’d really enjoyed it. I thought you’d like to know. There are so many ways a good book can help at different times in our lives don’t you think xx
